EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Updated: Sep 7, 2022

An effective way to treat trauma.

Have you experienced something very difficult?

Have you experienced certain difficulties in life where you were afraid for yourself or someone you loved? Perhaps you experienced childhood traumas, like neglect or abuse. Or you may have been in a difficult relationship where your partner sought to control you or perhaps was physically or emotionally violent. You may have experienced religious trauma or sexual abuse. Perhaps you were bullied in school or you experienced a medical trauma. You may even have watched a loved one go through something very difficult. What we experience helps to shape our thinking and how we go through life.

Do you feel tired, stuck, stressed, ashamed, or guilty?

Often, trauma expresses itself through difficult emotions or unwanted behaviors, like shame and guilt. For instance, do you experience any of the following?

  • You start the day feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed.

  • You feel that you don’t have time for yourself.

  • You feel that your mind drifts or you have difficulty concentrating.

  • You feel disconnected from others.

  • You’re often irritable and don’t understand why.

EMDR can help you.

It is possible to feel better. Imagine a life where you can…

  • Know who you are where you want to go.

  • Create and work toward goals that energize you.

  • Feel empowered and less stressed.

  • Practice regular self-care and enjoy life.

  • Enjoy your relationships more deeply.

How EMDR works.

EMDR consists of 60 minute, one-on-one sessions via telehealth (online). During our sessions, I will listen and ask questions designed to promote healing. Here’s the process:

  • We will work together to create a relationship where you feel comfortable sharing difficult things with me.

  • We work together to create the path to get from the emotions and difficulties you currently face to the place where you'd like to be.

  • We will explore your experiences and help the brain organize these in a way that promotes healing and helps to reduce the difficult feelings of these experiences.

  • Through this work, you will start making progress towards the life you desire.
